John Mayhugh

Oct. 14, 1924 - March 11, 2014

PLAINVILLE — John W. Mayhugh, 89, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Ketcham Memorial in Odon.

Born Oct. 14, 1924, in Princeton, he was the son of Rev. Luther and Lola Mae (Woods) Mayhugh.

A graduate of Corydon High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center where he worked from 1953 to 1984. He was a member of Plainville United Methodist Church and Plainville Masonic Lodge No. 678. He sang with the Golden Notes Quartet and was an avid Indiana University fan.

He is survived by his wife, Frances (Slatton) Mayhugh, whom he married April 25, 1947; a daughter, Becky (Mike) Burch; grandchildren, Angel (Tim) Tarvin, and Holly George; great-grandchildren, Lillian, Madelyn and Jeremiah Tarvin and Addison George; brothers, Jim and Paul J. Mayhugh; sister, Donna Jane Wetherald; and sister-in-law, Janet Slatton.

He is preceded in death by a son, Jerry Mayhugh; a brother, Jack Mayhugh; a sister, Mary Ann Myers; and brothers-in-law, Paul Slatton, Bill Myers and Jack Wetherald.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gill Funeral Home, with Revs. David Deal and Bob Tipton officiating. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
