VELPEN — Chester H. Vaughn, 90, passed away at 2:12 p.m., Wednesday at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He was born April 27, 1923, in Ayrshire in Pike County, to John and Louanna (Fritz) Vaughn. He married Mary Ann Henning on Dec. 6, 1950, in Otwell. Chester was a retired operating engineer and farmer. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No.181, the Winslow Masonic Lodge No. 260 F and AM, former Marion Township precinct committeeman, and current president of the Walnut Cemetery Association. He is preceded in death by three brothers, William “Jake”, Clyde and George Vaughn; one sister, Cleta Mae Vaughn; and one granddaughter, Laura Lee Ordiway.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Vaughn of Velpen; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike (Janet) Vaughn of Velpen; three daughters, Kathy Vaughn of Marietta, Ga., Linda Vaughn of Velpen, and Carol Cherry of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Darla Sullivan of Lynnville, Kurt Vaughn of Petersburg, Melissa Vaughn of Evansville, Katie Vaughn of Velpen, Dlorah Eileen Miller and Harold Frederick “Rick” Miller, both of Florida, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen.
Friends may call for visitation at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be shared online at: www.nassandson.com
