Joseph M. Elmore, 91, of Washington, went to be with the Lord on Friday. Joe was born June 21, 1922, to the late Joseph and Jesse (Reese) Elmore.
Joe was a 1940 graduate of Montgomery High School. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church, a more than 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. While a member of the Eastern Star Joe was Worthy Grand Patron of the State in 1982 and 1983. Joe was an avid piano player and traveled to surrounding counties to play at nursing facilities and rehabilitation homes; he also played for the Taste of Daviess County until his health would no longer permit him to do so. Among Joe’s other gifts, he was also an excellent tailor and enjoyed doing clothing alterations for many he knew.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nancy (Arnold) Elmore; daughter, Cheryl (Ed) Carroll of Fishers; two granddaughters, Nichole Cliff McCullough of Noblesville, Valerie (Eric) Hunsaker of Fishers; four great-grandchildren, Brookley and Carter McCullough, Greta and Brock Hunsaker; and nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Elmore; four sisters, Mildred Wildridge, Melvina Cone, Catherine Grubb, Louise Duzan; and one brother, Milford Elmore.
Visitation will be at Gill Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with an Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a. m. Wednesday at New Hope Christian Church with visitation there from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hand’s Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
