FORT WAYNE — Betty Jane Werling, 89, was surrounded by family when she went to be with her Maker at 8 a.m. on Oct. 11.

Born April 29, 1923, she was the daughter of Russell Edgar and Mabel Virena (Bobilya) Aker.

She ended her career with the county at the age of 81, working in the voter’s registration office for the last few years.

She was devoted to her children and her church. She served as a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader.

A founding member of what is now Grace Presbyterian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, elder and trustee with the church and was the treasurer for the Women’s Association for more than 50 years.

Her husband, William Lewis Werling, whom she married Jan. 3, 1944, preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1999. A grandchild, Heather Christine Morrison, died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Ronald James Morrison.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Klaehn, Fahl and Melton Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Grace Presbyterian Church.
