LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — Marguerite V. Johnson, 96, formerly of Washington, passed away Saturday morning at United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Gibson County, to Edgar and Katie (Hardiman) Russell.
She was a 1934 graduate of Lincoln High School in Princeton. She had worked at UniRoyal and Superior Steel Ball. She also worked cleaning the courthouse. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and was a RSVP volunteer for over 25 years.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Carol Curry of Lawrenceville, and Marilyn and James Cole of Piscataway, N.J.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren..
Her husband, Bernard Johnson, whom she married March 28, 1936, died in 1978. She is also preceded in death by one son, Gerald Johnson in 1973; four sisters; and two brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Washington, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. EDT until the hour of the mass at the church.
