Agnes Hagerty

GREENSBURG — Agnes Hagerty, 91, left this life to go home on Saturday at the Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. She began this life Nov. 1, 1921, in Daviess County. She was the daughter of Otto S. and Mary Elizabeth (Gates) Wathen.

Agnes spent her youth living in Montgomery, Princeton, and Evansville. She graduated from Montgomery High School, then left to go work in Indianapolis. She worked at various department store positions as well as working and studying at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. Agnes married Francis E. Hagerty on Nov. 22, 1941. Agnes raised 10 children with great love and care. When all the children were raised she went back to college and received her LPN license. She put great love in taking care of others, while working at Lincoln Street Nursing Home and the Heritage House Nursing Home, both in Greensburg. Agnes also worked at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Agnes is survived by ten children; six sons, John and Dale Hagerty of Letts, Dennis (Susie) Hagerty and Bernie (Janet) Hagerty of Greensburg, Jim (Marietta) Hagerty of Westport, Larry (Kathy) Hagerty of North Vernon; four daughters, Dorothy (Steve) Scudder of St. Paul, Teresa (Joel) Diedrich of Georgia, Alice (Bob) Back of Westport, and Nancy (Dan) Schroeder of Greensburg; one sister, Viola (Mac) McMillan of Los Angeles, Calif.; 36 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; one brother, Vincent Wathen; and three sisters, Kathryn (William) Kelly, Dorothy McKinney, and Charlotte Wathen.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
