Mary Janet Gill Hayes

Mary Jane came into this world and left this world peacefully on her 80th birthday, Oct. 28, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Charles L. “Butch” Gill and the late Josephine Wells Gill of Washington, Ind. Janet was a florist at the Washington Greenhouse for many years. She married the late Robert N. Hayes on Oct. 12, 1957. Janet had an indescribable personality and sense of humor.

Janet leaves behind her long-time special companion Fred Wise, and two sons, Robert G. Hayes and Brayton R. Hayes. Her siblings include the late Donald Richard “Sonny” Gill, Joesph Gill (Patty) and Charles W. Gill (Sharon). Her sister-in-law was Anna Hayes Gill Rockefeller. Her nieces and nephews were Laurie Gill Arnold, the late John “Blue” Gill, Lisa Gill, Angela Gill, Katie Gill Cissna, Charles R. Gill, Christopher Gill, David Gill, Amy Gill Dowd (Brian) and Julie Gill McNamara (Daniel). She also had three grandchildren, Leslie Hayes, Bridget Hayes and Brayton Hayes, Jr. There are two great grandchildren, Liam and Nora.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband Robert, brother Donald “Sonny” and nephew John “Blue.”

A memorial mass will be conducted No. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Montgomery, Ind.

A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Washington.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns Cemetery in Washington or the Washington Catholic High School Endowment Fund.
