ODON — Marjorie Louise Ledgerwood, 96, passed away at her residence Friday.
She was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of the late Carl Raymond and Mabel (Mossburg) Berry.
She married Hays J. Ledgerwood of Odon on Dec. 21, 1941, in Crown Point. He preceded her in death May 7, 1983. Prior to their marriage Marjorie worked as a telephone operator in Baltimore. She met Hays on a visit to her cousin in Chicago and had a whirlwind courtship of a few weeks that resulted in a 42-year union. They moved to the Odon area in 1945. Marjorie was a city girl moving to the country, but she loved being primarily a homemaker most of her life. She worked for Mary Bunch at Odon’s The Towne Shop and they became very good friends. Marjorie was an active member of Odon United Methodist Church and she served on the Red Cross board in the 1980s. Marjorie will be best remembered for being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always opened up her home to family and friends, loved to cook delicious meals for visitors, and helped to raise her granddaughters.
She is survived by William (Melody) Ledgerwood of Odon, Barry Ledgerwood of Port Orange, Fla., and Diana (Tim) Maryfield of Odon; grandchildren, Kim Cramer of Linton, Marci Miller of Louisville, Ky., Ed Ledgerwood and Valerie Ledgerwood, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., Colby Lagenour of Huntingburg, Amy Yoder of Washington, Shelly Faith of Austell, Ga., Krissy Lagenour of Odon; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at Odon United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home in Odon and before the hour of service Wednesday at the church.
