---- — LOOGOOTEE — William J. “Joe” Cain, 63, died at 2:35 a.m. Sunday at his home.
Born June 7, 1950, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Edwin Eugene and Ruth (Bradfield) Cain.
He was a retired welder and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Joe was of the Catholic faith and was a 1969 graduate of Rensselaer High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching basketball and football and following Jeff Gordon in NASCAR.
He is survived by one son, Craig Cain of Loogootee; six daughters, Kelly Cain of Boise, Idaho, Kimberly Cain, Amy Cain and Jodie Cain, all of Danville, Ill., Chalka Heuser of Washington, and Keri Beard of Boise; one brother, Ed Cain of Francesville; one sister, Regina Trout of Rensselaer; several grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Julie Jo Wessell; one son, Chalk Wessell; and one sister, Peggy Luttrell.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will be in Veale Creek Cemetery south of Washington, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
