James E. Choate, 65, of Washington, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Monday at Daviess Community Hospital.
Born March 29, 1949, in Hopkinsville, Ky., he was the son of Shirley and Flora (Flynn) Choate.
He graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1967. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from PTM Water Blaster Cleaning Co.
He is survived by his wife Sharon (Fields) Choate, whom he married Jan. 7, 1969; two daughters, Rhonda Padgett and Lisa (Paul) Clark, both of Washington; two sons, James E. Choate II of Petersburg, and Joseph E. Choate of Washington; three brothers, Wallace (Ruth) Choate of Griffith, Kenneth (Joy) Choate of Valparaiso, and Tommy (Dawn) Choate of Calumet City, Ill.; seven sisters, Wanda Gilbert of Hammond, Mattie (Vern) Garza of Schererville, Flo (Marshall) Snuffer of Valparaiso, Peggy (Ron) Cassoday of Rensselaer, Joyce Robinson of Merrillville, Brenda (James) Harris of Hobart, and Dorothy (Ron) Harris of Dyer; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Andrea Choate; one granddaughter, Cheyanne Demoss; two grandsons, Joshua Choate and Joseph Choate II; and one sister, Cora Cummings.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Pastors Vicki Murello and Tom Watson officiating. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens, with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
