GREENFIELD — Eleanor Jean Hobson, 77, passed away Sunday. Born Aug. 30, 1935, in Washington, she was the daughter of Herbert James and Opal Beatrice (Decker) Whalen. Eleanor graduated from Washington High School in 1953 and married James “Jim” Hobson Dec. 11, 1959. She worked at State Auto as a stenographer and then devoted her time to her family as a homemaker. Eleanor was a member of Bradley United Methodist Church. Eleanor loved playing Scrabble and Boggle, calligraphy, artwork, listening to classical music, telling jokes, spending time with family and friends, and always enjoyed making new friends. Surviving are her husband, James Edward Hobson of Greenfield; son, Douglas Grant (Stephanie) Hobson of Westfield; daughter, Donna June (Barri) Burtch of Kokomo; brother, Donald Walter (Jean) Whalen of Washington; grandchildren, Nelleigh, Julia, Taylor and Ben; and five nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Charles Robert Whalen; and sister, Marilyn Ruth Woodruff. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Wade Compton and Pastor Ed Vasicek will be officiating. Burial will take place at Philadelphia Cemetery.
