Robert Fidler Sr.

Robert E. Fidler Sr., 85, of Washington, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Manor.

Born July 7, 1928, in Plainville, he was the son of Charles H. and Rose V. (Lawyer) Fidler.

He was a graduate of Plainville High School and attended South West Bible College of Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a sergeant in World War II and Korean War. He is a member of Cornerstone Worship Center of God in Bedford. He was a farmer and a private pilot. He was also employed at McCord’s and drove a cab for City Cab. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, USMC Rifle Marksman badge and the Republic of Korean Presidential Unit Citation.

He is survived by a son, Robert “Bob” (Debbie) Fidler, Jr.; a grandson, Ryan Fidler; three siblings, Dixie Bridges, Eleanor Brown, and Charles “Buck” (Lou) Fidler Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Fidler.

He is preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Wilson; five brothers, Clarence “Bill” Fidler, Donald Fidler, Ronald Fidler, Randall Fidler and Donnie Fidler; and two previous wives, Leonna M. Blackburn and Rosemary May.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gill Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery with military graveside services.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
