LOOGOOTEE — Hayden L. “Cuddy” Sutton, 86, died at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday at Loogootee Nursing Center.

Born Sept. 14, 1927, in Martin County, he was the son of Leander and Sophia (Ziegler) Sutton.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Loogootee and a World War II Army veteran. He was a farmer and had retired from the maintenance department at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane. Cuddy enjoyed squirrel hunting, fishing, watching baseball, as he was an avid baseball player in his younger years. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores “Dee” (Helming) Sutton, whom he married May 1, 1971; one son, Robert Sutton of Loogootee; one daughter, Donna (Sutton) and husband Billy Haynes of Philpot, Ky.; four stepdaughters, Debbe and husband Marvin Osborne of Alfordsville, Jacquie and husband Mike Catt of Vincennes, Brenda and husband Jerry Edwards and Falicia and husband Tony Hollaway, all of Loogootee; three sisters, Violet Roberts of Shoals, Faye and husband Jim Krenskie of Loogootee, and Carol and husband Ray Shaw of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny Sutton; one brother, Robert Sutton; three sisters, Mamie Cole, Dot Jeffers and Olena Craney; and one grandson, Michael Neukam.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in South Martin Cemetery in Rutherford Township in Martin County, with a military graveside service by the American Legion and V.F.W.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Saturday at the church.
