LOOGOOTEE — Frances Yokem, 77, died at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Northwood Retirement Community.

Born Feb. 2, 1936, in Alfordsville, she was the daughter of Earl and Hazel (Robbins) Shelton.

A 1954 graduate of Alfordsville High School, she was a member of Alfordsville Christian Church. She had been a teacher’s aide in the Barr-Reeve school system. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cross-stitch and gardening.

She is survived by one son, Daniel (Susan) Yokem of Alfordsville; two daughters, Rhonda (John) Brittian of Alfordsville, and Carol (Phil) Atkinson of Fowler; one sister, Phyllis Williams; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Billy G. Yokem, whom she married Nov. 25, 1954, died March 18, 2006. One son, Brian Yokem; and siblings Raymond Shelton, Clarence Shelton, Wayne Shelton and Mildred Cox are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Gill Funeral Home, with Bros. Tom Watson and Steve Remmel officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Reeve Township.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
