WASHINGTON — Maxine Hawkins Godwin, 96, passed away Wednesday.

Born on June 23, 1916 in Kempton, she was the daughter of Elza and Edith Hawkins.

A graduate of Kempton High School, she was a member of First Christian Church, Beta Sigma Phi soriority and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda (Tom) Purtell of Greenwood; sister Juanita Orr of Kempton; two brothers, Jim (Betty) Hawkins of Evansville and Bob (Martha) Hopkins of Tipton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 54 years, Ralph Y. Godwin; son, Ronald Godwin; and two brothers, Von and Junior Hawkins.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Gill Chapel.

Visitation is after noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church, 117 N.E. Third St., Washington, IN 47501.
