BURNS CITY — Michael L. Arney, 66, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at his home.

Born Dec. 30, 1946 in Washington, he was the son of Carmen and Virginia (VanMeter) Arney.

On April 13, 1968, he married Brenda (Sparks) Arney and she preceded him in death in May 2006.

A 1964 graduate of Elnora High School, he was a Navy veteran.

A retired electrician from U.S. Gypsum in Shoals, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working on old cars.

He is survived by a daughter, Leslie Cropp of Loogootee; two sons, William Gillis Arney of Salisbury and Paul Allen Arney of Bloomington; a brother, Carlos Arney of Indiana; three sisters, Carmen Pierce of Kansas, Treva McFarland of Tampa, Fla., and Marietta Messer of Vincennes; and six grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and stepfather, William “Bill” Harper.

Memorial services will at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
