---- — Dorothy Ann Goodrid, 89, Washington, passed away Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at her home surrounded by her family.
Dorothy was born to the late Gene and Una (Taylor) Witherspoon in Chicago on May 22, 1924. Her family lived in Chicago for the first few years of her life and then moved to Petersburg. She was a 1941 graduate of Petersburg High School. On June 25, 1942, she married the love of her life, Gene M. Goodrid. He survives. They were married for over 71 years, and lived in the same homestead in Washington for 58 of those years. Her family was her pride and joy!
She and Gene loved to travel and see the world. They loved to take many camping trips, while raising their six daughters.
They traveled to almost every state and many other countries.
They were snowbirds that spent 21 winters in Florida, where they made many lasting friendships.
Dorothy was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Washington. She was also active in the United Methodist Women, UMC Booster Sunday School, UMW Afternoon Circle, and House and Garden Homemakers. She was employed by Williams Drug Store for over 16 years.
Dorothy was an avid reader. She loved to jump into a new read that took her away to other countries, religions, other eras in time, and new adventures. She loved her grandchildren, and in her later years, loved having them and the great grandchildren come visit and play.
She is survived by her husband, Gene M. Goodrid of Washington; six daughters, Sherry (John) Ricks of Washington, Vicki (Jim) Wood of Plainfield, Cindy (Blaine) Kalberer of Washington, Sandy (Adrian) Davis of Avon, Patty (Tim) Riker of Washington, and Peggy (Clifton)Wilson of Washington; 14 grandchildren, Brenda Parsons of Washington, Peter (Lisa) Wood of Littleton, Colo., Rick Greene of Patoka, Ky., Kathy Fowler of Washington, Eric (Jurgen) Just of Warendorf-Hoetmar, Germany, Christina (Jason) Potts of Petersburg, Matthew (Amber) Davis Plainfield, Kari (Patrick) Meehan of Indianapolis, Bradley Riker of Washington, Adam (Star) Riker of Washington, Kelly (Cody) Cummings of Cannelburg, Holly (Joshua) Butcher of Washington, and Andrew (Bryana) Wilson of Washington; 27 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; one sister, Mary Jo (Bob) Roberts of Lewisville, Texas, one sister-in-law, Jan Witherspoon at St. Louis and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Gene, Jim, and Thomas Witherspoon.
Visitation will be held Friday at Christ United Methodist Church in Washington from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. prior to the service. The funeral will be held Sat. at 10 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Wells officiating. Burial will take place in Sugarland Memory Gardens following the service.
