ODON — Darvin E. Holder, 73, passed away at 11 p.m. Thursday at his home after a long fight with brain cancer.

He was born May 22, 1939 in Evansville to Haskel E. and Sophia (Butcher) Holder.

Darvin was a 1957 graduate of Mackey High School. He married Barbara Ann

(Hyde) Holder on Sept. 13, 1958 and she survives.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Daviess County Fraternal  Order of Police.

Darvin was an Indiana State Trooper for 30 years. He was assigned to the Jasper Indiana State Police Post. After retiring in 1997, he continued his law enforcement service with the Indiana Attorney General¹s office until 2004.

He enjoyed North Daviess sports and following his grandchildren¹s sporting events. He was an avid Notre Dame sports fan as well. Darvin was quite active in Christ Renews and enjoyed writing poetry and music, singing and making everyone laugh.

Darvin is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Holder, one son, Darin and his wife Jane Holder of Odon, four daughters, Terri and husband Jay Anderson of Elnora, Evett and husband Ron Arney of Washington, Joan Manning of Bloomington, and Angela and husband Ron Sheppard of Hinton, Ok., two sisters Darlene and husband Ronnie Doerner of Sommerville, and Janet Gregory of Evansville, 12 grandchildren, Elizabeth Anderson-Morris, Cody (PJ) Anderson, Dayne and wife Meagan Holder, Breanna Holder, Adam Means, Stefen and wife Mary Anna Arney, Joshua and wife Justine Means, Bethany Manning, Darrah Holder, Blaine Arney, Aaron Means, Kiersten Arney, and three great grandchildren, Jayden Morris, Sophiea Morris, and Carter Jessie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskel E. and Sophia (Butcher) Holder, parent-in-laws Robert and Mary Hyde, brothers Gerald and William “Billy” Holder and sister Donna Kay Holder, who died in infancy.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Indiana Police Honor Guard.  Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
