WASHINGTON — Orville E. "Nookie" Carter, 64, of Washington, passed away Saturday afternoon at his residence. Born Aug. 5, 1948, in Henderson, Ky., he was the son of Orville and Clodean (Billings) Carter. He had worked for United Minerals at the Summerville Mine. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Petersburg Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Reed) Carter, whom he married Sept. 18, 1975; one daughter, Dusty Carter of Washington; two sons, Gary Carter of Eighty Four, Pa., and Jason Hardy of Washington; one brother, Kim Carter of Tipton; and six grandchildren, Jaisa Hardy, Darrian Johnson, DeAntae Carter-Jones, Julianna Piggott, Alissa Carter and Jaxon Reed Hardy, all of Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, J.C. Carter; and son, Brad Carter. He will be cremated and services will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff James, Greg Chaney, Tim Tolbert, Eric Bass, Johnny Albright, Larry Nolan, Jeff Bush and Albert Mayhan. Arrangements are being made through Ed Lee Mortuary.
