Joyce Gibson

March 28, 1935 - June 8, 2014

Joyce Ann (Leavell) Gibson, 79, of Washington, passed away at 5:36 a.m. Sunday at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 28, 1935, in Elwood, to Gerald and Beatrice (Heathcoat) Leavell. She was married to Thomas Henry Gibson on June 22, 1957, and had three children. She was a 1952 graduate of Cross Plains High School in Ripley County and was retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane. She was a member of Southwind Wesleyan Church. Joyce loved her family, and her granddaughters and great-grandsons held a special place in her heart. She had a strong and solid faith in God and she loved to serve in the ministries of her church. Joyce had a passion for Indiana University basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

She is survived by two children, Lisa (Greg) Hartz of Washington and Doug (Cathy) Gibson of Centralia, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kaylee (Rory) Brown, Courtney (Paul) Thompson, and Miranda Gibson; two great-grandchildren, Myles and Graham Brown; a sister, Sharon (Gerald) Hill of Washington; and a brother, Gerald (Sharon Rose) Leavell of Lafayette.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Gibson, on May 22, 2014; one son, Ronald Henry Gibson; and her parents.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Southwind Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Phil Kessen officiating.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorial donations may be given to Southwind Wesleyan Church, 1782 Troy Road, Washington, IN 47501.
