WHEATLAND — Linda Lee Haag, 75, passed away Saturday morning at her home in Wheatland after having battled cancer since 2006.
Linda graduated from Wheatland High School in 1957. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Donald E. Haag. They were married at St. Simon Catholic Church in Washington on Sept. 27, 1958. Linda graduated from Tri-State Beauty College and was a Master Beautician and owned and operated Linda’s Beauty Shop for over 50 years. She was a past member of ABWA, Knox County Homemakers, Shagbark Council Girl Scouts and served as secretary of the Diaconate Board for the Diocese of Evansville.
Linda was a longtime gas bill collection agent for the town of Wheatland and was also a bookkeeper and cook for the family soda fountain business, Haags of Wheatland, that operated from 1976 until 1994. Until the time of her death, Linda faithfully attended church at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Wheatland bible study, Legion of Mary, and activities in support of her husbands role as Deacon.
Don and Linda are the parents of three children, Laura Cumba (Wheatland), Lisa Ice-Jones (Monroe City), and LaDonna McCrary (Schellsburg, Pennsylvania). Surviving are one sister, Mary Lucille Brown of Spring Hill, Florida, and eight grandchildren; Aaron VanVleet, Roy Ice, Katelyn McCrary, Andy Cumba, and sons-in-law Kevin McCrary and James Jones. Linda was preceded in death by her father, Otis Schroeder; step-father, Elmer Dukes; stepfather Clint Powell; mother, Clara (Cox) Powell; granddaughter Andrea McCrary and son-in-law Mervin Ray Ice, Jr.
Visitation for friends and family will be at Ed Lee Mortuary from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today. All are invited to attend Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of Hope Wednesday at 10 a.m. Christian burial will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.
