Rev. Clyde Wake

LOOGOOTEE — Rev. Clyde D. Wake, 87, died at 10 p.m. Friday at Hillside Manor Nursing Home in Washington.

Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Clinton, he was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Mable Clara (Dahlen) Wake.

Clyde was an ordained United Methodist minister since 1960 and was a pastor since 1950. He started his college education at Vincennes University and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Evansville, Bachelor and Master of Divinity degrees from Butler Christian Theological Seminary. He had special training in the area of pastoral counseling. Clyde and his wife Edna studied Methodist history in England and had traveled to Ireland, the holy land, along with many U.S. states.

He served on the following boards during his ministry: Board of Pensions Northwest Indiana Conference, Methodist Pension Development Corporation, Board of Pensions South Indiana Conference, Division on Ministry South Indiana Conference, Board of Ministry qualification panel, Vincennes District Council, Vincennes District Board of Ministry, Vincennes District Board of Trustees. He served many years as a Methodist camp dean at Battleground, near Lafayette.

Clyde and wife Edna served the following Methodist Churches in Indiana: Glendale, Pittsboro, Stockwell, Hammond Hyde Park, Taylor Chapel Fort Wayne, Walkerton, Sullivan First Church, Princeton, Greenwood, Edwardsport, Walnut Grove, Wesley Washington.

He was a member of the North Liberty, Indiana Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis. He enjoyed with friends bowling and golfing, where he got a hole in one at West Boggs golf course and earned the title of “Super Senior.” He did woodworking and loved making candy.

He is survived by one daughter, Cathie L. and husband Gerald Jones of Jasper; one son, Robert D. and wife Mary Wake of Washington; one stepson, Mark Eichmiller of Corydon; two stepdaughters, Sue Flinn of New Albany and Elaine Watham of Loogootee; one brother, Kenneth Wake of Satsuma, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
