Gail English

April 23, 1942 - July 21, 2013

Gail Junior English, 71, of Washington, died at 3:03 p.m. Sunday at his home with his family around him, after a 9-year battle with cancer.

Born April 23, 1942, he was the son of Oren Gail and Mary Louise (Callahan) English.

He worked at Home Outfitters and Heilig-Meyers for many years and retired from the city of Washington Water Dept. in 2009. He like trains, teddy bears and old classic cars. He very much enjoyed life and times with his grandchildren. He watched Indiana University basketball and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include Linda Brown, his best friend, soulmate and caregiver of 20 years; three daughters, Nellie Mathies of Jasper, Star Long and husband David of Loogootee, and Tina Gullickson of Kentucky; two brothers, Roger English and Brayton English, and a sister, Diane Evans, all of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany Chandler, Brittany Chandler, Ashley Steiner, Cody Long, Chris Long, Kyle Long, Alexis Long, Victoria Long, Chadd Gullickson, Shane Gullickson and Danyel Watson; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah Watson, Dalton Watson, Brilyn Chandler and Ryder Meko.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Toy Dent.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Washington Chapel.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
