Mary Tomey

Oct. 17, 1934 - July 16, 2013

Mary E. Tomey, 78, of Washington went home to be with the Lord at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

Born Oct. 17, 1934, in Washington, she was the daughter of Marcus and Hattie (Christenberry) Gasser.

She attended Washington High School and retired in 1990 from HWI in Medina, Ohio. She was a member of Faithway Baptist Church. She loved reading, butterflies, the Food Network and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, James (Wanda) Tomey of Ohio; three daughters, Diana (Fred) Barr of Ohio, Glenda (Ken) Dornhecker of Texas, and Sheila (Steve) Whapham of Washington; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Angie, David, Jason, Justin, Cody, Holly and Kelly; and great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Hallie, Bryan, Sadie, Allie and baby Tomey.

Her husband, Dencil Tomey, whom she married Oct. 16, 1951, died Sept. 17, 2003. She is also preceded in death by one grandson, Jimmy Williams, and one brother, Robert Gasser.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with Pastor Terry Fletcher officiating.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Elnora.

Visitation is after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
