JASPER — Anthony “Tony” V. Haas, 91, passed away at 10:22 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He was born at St. Anthony on Nov. 2, 1922, to John and Theresia (Heichelbech) Haas. He married Bertha Goeppner Feb. 22, 1943, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She preceded him in death June 18, 2010.
Tony was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired from Bob Luegers Motor Company where he worked for 27 years. After retirement he worked at Rural King in Jasper. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and life member of the V.F.W. Post 673 in Jasper. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters and two sons, Shirley Vonderheide of Jasper, Kathleen Holman and husband Martin of Bristow, Herb Haas and wife Kathy of Jasper, and Jerry Haas and wife Marilyn of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sisters, Barbara Matthews and Marie Weyer; and one brother, John M. Haas; and one grandson, Keith Allen Vonderheide.
Funeral services for Anthony Haas will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post 673 in Jasper will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.
