CINCINNATI, Ohio — Charles John Bell, passed away at the age of 77.

He was the loving husband of Mary Frances (Gabhart) Bell, and proud father of Todd, Julianne, and Jeremy. He was born Sept. 12, 1936, in Salisbury, Rhodesia, to Charles Edward Thomas and Wilhemina (nee Jhibelius).

Coming to the U.S. in 1956, he attended Cincinnati Bible Seminary (now CCU), graduating in 1960, meeting his wife, Mary Frances while attending. They married in 1962. He and his wife and family were actively involved in Christian missions work in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and Zambia, in central Africa, beginning in 1966. Coming back to Cincinnati in 1977, he worked as an engineer developing custom solutions for many different industries, from food processing to aircraft engine test equipment. Retiring in 2010, he maintained many active interests in classical history and theology

He is survived by his wife, his three children and four grandchildren, as well as his brothers Donald, George, and sisters Pauline and Barbara, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ken, Hilton, and sister Virginia.

Funeral services will be held at Gump-Holt Funeral Home, 3440 Glenmore Ave., Cincinnati, on Wednesday at noon. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be held at Alfordsville Christian Cemetery on Thursday at 2 p.m. A gathering will be held immediately following at Jeremiah Park Alfordsville.
