LOOGOOTEE — Mary Naomi Walker, 89, went to be forever with her Lord at noon Wednesday at Memorial Hospital and Heathcare Center in Jasper.
Naomi was the last of nine children born to Elias Oscho and Rille Mae (White) Harbison, and she was born in Rutherford Township on Nov. 27, 1924.
She married the love of her life, Rev. Elza V. Walker, on Aug. 26, 1966, in French Lick, and he preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1995.
She graduated from Loogootee High School and attended bible college at the Frankfort Bible College. Naomi worked a few years for the Reliance Shirt Factory in Loogootee but quit to take care of her ailing parents. She found caregiving to be a good fit for her and never returned to work outside of the home again, preferring to be a caregiver to family members when called upon and assisting her husband with pastoral duties in several Indiana counties. Naomi attended the Mount Zion Wesleyan Church where she served as pianist and organist.
She will truly be missed by her family including daughter Alfreda and Leland Gibson of Loogootee; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Bernadine Choate, four brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call at the Lee Funeral Home in Loogootee from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Wesleyan Church in Rutherford Township. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
