ODON — Thelma Louise Vest, 97, died at 10:57 a.m. Thursday at Daviess Community Hospital. Born Jan. 9, 1916, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of William M. and Kizzie (Lee) Holt. She was a graduate of Eastern Carolina University and was a school teacher in North Carolina, Odon, Elnora, Sandborn and Epsom, retiring in 1979. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Odon and Odon MIC. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Louise Vest of Odon; sisters, Mary Batten and Mildred E. Hadnott, both of North Carolina; a brother, James C. Holt of North Carolina; five nieces and four nephews. Her husband, O.W. “Jack” Vest, whom she married Aug. 7, 1944, preceded her in death. Her parents; stepmother, Mildred Luper Holt; three brothers, L. Banks Holt, Robert D. Holt and John E. Holt; and two sisters, Ada Marshall and Sara Ellen Holt, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Poindexter-McClure, Odon Chapel, with Rev. Teresa Brod officiating. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
