Charles Doyle

Feb. 25, 1929 - Oct. 10, 2012

WASHINGTON — Charles Edward Doyle passed away Wednesday at Memorial Hospital, Jasper, following a brief battle with MDS. The son of Thomas Earl and Rose (Nalin) Doyle, Charles was born in Washington on Feb. 25, 1929. He attended Washington Catholic schools and graduated from Washington Catholic High School. He attended Vincennes University and Bradley University. On May 17, 1952, he married Mary Ann Holt and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012. Charles was an integral part of the family business, Doyle Bros. Construction. He retired from the National Guard after 35 years of service. During that time he completed training in Panama and Puerto Rico. He was on the Indiana National Guard rifle team and was the 1972 state champion. He was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association and served on the Indiana Board of Directors for over 15 years. Charles had a great mechanical mind and was able to fix anything. He enjoyed driving trips and visited Canada, Mexico and Hawaii as well as most of the continental United States. He loved attending Mardi Gras and relaxing on Maui with his family. He spent much of his time meeting with his brothers daily at McDonald’s, playing solitare on his computer, listening to German polka music, and out on the road going somewhere. Always a story teller, he loved sharing the experiences of his life with the people around him. His family was his top priority, and he considered his siblings his best friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mariam Doyle. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Doyle; his daughter, Rosalyn and her husband Richard Eason and their sons, Blake, Kyle and Grant; his son, David Doyle and his wife Louise and their children, Christopher and Angela; his son Mark and his wife Susan and their son, Dominic; his sister Jean Sorensen; and his brothers, Vincent Doyle, Lewis Doyle and Thomas Doyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ed Lee Mortuary, with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will also be from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to Washington Catholic Education Endowment at P.O. Box 916, Washington, IN 47501. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.edleemortuary.com.
