Mary Dawn White, 89, of Washington, died at 3:54 a.m. Saturday at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.
Born May 31, 1924, in Jeffersonville, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Annette (Denzler) Thees.
She was a retired school teacher having taught at Bluffton, Washington High School, and Washington Catholic High School. She was a member of several organizations including the Browning Club, Daviess County Red Cross, and a volunteer at Daviess Community Hospital for 25 years. Her love was always with the Girl Scouts, having joined in 1937. She was a Brownie, Junior, and Senior troop leader, a camp director and a professional Girl Scout in Louisville, Ky. During World War II she received her bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. Mary was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and was president of the United Methodist Women’s Club, also president of the Vincennes district of United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Max Hawk of Evansville; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Cyndee White of Swedesboro, N.J.; grandchildren, Christina Hunt, Kurtis Browning, Rachel McStay and Amy White; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Jack Chaddock of Evansville.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two granddaughters.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Gill Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ken Wells officiating. Burial will be in Sugarland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday until service time.
