Carl Harrell Rush, 74, died at 2:30 a.m. Friday at Deaconess Hospital.
Born July 29, 1939, in Washington, he was the son of Charles E. and Irene D. (Harrell) Rush.
He retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane in 2000 after 33 years of service. He also worked at the Washington Times Herald. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Washington where he had attended since he was 6 days old. He loved Indiana University basketball and watched every game he could. He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Janice (Ross) Rush; a daughter, Karla (Bill) Wittmer of Washington; a son, Brian C. Rush of Indianapolis; a grandson, Michael W. Wittmer of Washington; a brother, Dale E. (Pearlitha “Dede”) Rush of Paris Crossing; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a grandson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Poindexter-McClure Funeral Home, Washington Chapel, with Rev. Tim Baxter officiating. Burial will be in Veale Creek Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation is after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
