Albert L. “Pete” Showalter, 77, Washington, passed away at 11:57 a.m.
Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes. He was born Sept. 29, 1935 in Montgomery to Roscoe and Hazel (Nolley) Showalter.
He was a 1955 graduate of Montgomery High School and a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Washington Moose Lodge 1080 and Washington American Legion.
He had served in the Indiana National Guard and retired from the B and O Railroad as a brakeman. He owned and operated Al Showalter and Sons Trucking Co. for a number of years. He was an Honorary Life member of the Washington Township Volunteer Firefighters Association and was inspirational in getting needed supplies and equipment for the Washington Township Volunteer Department. Pete also served as the Washington Township trustee from 1981 until his death.
He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Vicki Showalter Guy, Michelle and Tim Guy all of Washington, sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph Leon Showalter, Rick (Steve Adams) Showalter, Kenneth and Amy Showalter and Helen
(Tony) Massie all of Washington, special friend Rita Nowling, whom he enjoyed going out and spending time with, 10 grandchildren, Brittany Chestnut, Alisha Showalter, Pamela Freeman, Derrick Devine, Amber Showalter, Mackenzie Showalter, Shelby Guy, Logan Guy, Tyler Guy, and Jeff Boes, six great grandchildren, Dalton Freeman, Logan Baldwin, Wyatt Freeman, Brody Chestnut, Brooks Chestnut and Ethan Boes, brothers Robert Showalter, Roscoe Dean Showalter Jr., two sisters Wanda Hill and Imogene Lechner and Katie, his English Bulldog.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine “Jean” (Palmer) Showalter on June 19, 2010, whom he married Oct. 6, 1956. Also preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Mark Anthony Showalter, and one granddaughter, Andrea Boes.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St.
Peter Catholic Church with Father James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
