Dorothy Traylor

WASHINGTON — Dorothy M. Traylor, 90, of Washington, died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday at Prairie Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Sept. 23, 1922 in Pike County, she was the daughter of Allie “Chug” and Clara J. (Wiscaver) Hancock.

She attended the Iva Grade School and was a proud member of the 1940 Otwell graduating class. She married Harold L. Traylor on April 3, 1941. He died in 2001.

A homemaker, she assisted her husband in their Traylor Livestock and Fertilizer business in Otwell and worked for Hancock Investment in Tennessee. Her first job was a nanny.

Dorothy loved the Lord Jesus, her family and friends. She was quick to converse with any new person she met.

For many years, she taught teen and young adult Sunday School classes. In later years, she was a volunteer with Daviess County RSVP. She was a member of the Washington Free Methodist Chruch and active in the Women's Group.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Harold (Beverly) of Somerville, Tenn.; Alan (Barbara) of Franklin, Tenn.; Mike (Sandra) of Washington; seven grandchildren, Troy Traylor, Martin Traylor, Brandon Traylor, Brian Traylor, Kevin Traylor, Paula Gruen and Michelle Iglehart; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death was a son, Dennis Lee, in 1962; a grandson, Michael A. Traylor, in 2012; a sister, Naomi Traylor; and a brother, Kermit Hancock.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Washington Free Methodist church, Rev. Wayne Neely officiating. Burial will be in the Iva Public Cemetery in Otwell.

Visitation is after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Otwell Community Center. Donations may be sent to Mike Traylor, 301 Hillcrest Ave., Washington IN, 47501.
