Caroline Armes

Caroline M. Armes, 92, of Washington died Wednesday.

She was born to the late John P. and Carrie McDaniel on May 9, 1921. She graduated from Washington High School in 1939. She married Herbert O. Armes on March 15, 1941, and he preceded her in death April 14, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Anna Stafford, Norma Stuckey, Ruth Singleton, Lois Blann, and her twin brother Clell McDaniel.

Caroline was a lifetime member of Bethel Methodist Church. She was also a five-time Worthy Matron for the Glendale Eastern Star. She was a member of the Omega Homemakers Club. She worked at Daviess County Hospital for 10 years and was a volunteered Pink Lady for several decades. She was a 4-H leader, advisor to Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 6. She collected money for the American Heart Association among other groups. She was recognized by the state of Indiana for being volunteer of the year after 50 years of service.

She was an avid seamstress, quilter and crafter. She crocheted over 300 lap robes for the R.S.V.P. to give patients in the nursing homes and hospitals.

Caroline is survived by four children, Jane (Lowell) Johnson of Sheboygan, Wis., Gayle (Marla) Armes of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mac (Ruth Elaine) Armes of Washington, and Jan (Nick) Georgion, of Valparaiso. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jay (Julie) Johnson of Sheboygan, Wis., Lance (Sharon) Johnson of Combine Locks, Wis.; Jennifer (John) Atikson of Fishers, Carrie (Kevin) Loeffler of LaPorte, Amity (Manny) Bustamante of Indio, Calif., Ashley Armes of Phoenix, Ariz.; Sherman (Jacki) Armes and Jason Armes, all of Washington. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Nick Georgion, Jr. Surviving great-grandchildren are Seth Armes, James Parson, Zackary Armes, Sonja Armes of Washington, James Parson of Phoneix, Ariz., Erik Atikson of Fishers, and Finnegan Loeffler of LaPorte. Caroline was adored by her many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday at Bethel United Methodist South From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 11 a.m. with Pastors Bruce Mowery and Dean Stuckey officiating.
