WASHINGTON — Fred Fromme, 88, a lifelong resident of Washington, died peacefully Friday at his residence. He was born to Fred A. and Sarah (Waller) Fromme on Sept. 11, 1924. His parents and his brother, Joe Fromme, preceded him in death. He was married to Mary Lou Boger for 63 years, until her death in October 2011. A son, Larry Fromme, also preceded him in death in December 2012.
He graduated from Washington High School in 1942 and was an Army veteran. In his early career, he worked at the news desk of the Washington Herald and then worked at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. He was the owner/broker of Fred Fromme Insurance and Real Estate Agency for many years. During that time, he was elected vice president of the Indiana Realtor’s Association. He also owned Fred Fromme Tax Service for over 50 years. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Community of Washington, served three terms as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and was the recipient of the Laetare Award in 1986.
He is survived by five sons, Fred (Janel), Dan and John, all of Indianapolis, David of Atlanta, Richard (Nancy Prickel) of Batesville; seven grandchildren, Eric Fromme of Jasper, Sarah (David) LaBonte of Venice Beach, Fla., Stefanie (Justin) Bauserman of Indianapolis, Josh, Matt, T.J.and Desiree Fromme, all of St. Cloud, Fla. He also leaves three great-grandchildren and special niece and nephews, Jane, John and Joe Fromme, all of Colorado.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a wake service at 4 p.m., at Ed Lee Mortuary.
