Gerald ‘Jerry’ Larkin

LOOGOOTEE — Gerald Donald “Jerry” Larkin, 84, died Saturday evening in Arlington Heights, Ill. Born Oct. 3, 1927, in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Joseph C. and Ruth (Adams) Larkin. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Loogootee Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Loogoote High School and Notre Dame University. In addition he was the former president of the Loogootee Lions Club and a former Catholic Man of the Year at St. John Catholic Parish. He was the co-owner of the former Home Outfitters, Larkin Bros. Department Store and the Handi-Mart, all in Loogootee. He was a member of the Hicks and Chicks Square Dance club and the Notre Dame Alumni Association. He was also a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by two sons, Drew and wife Heidi Larkin of Buena Park, Calif., and Richard and wife Deborah Larkin of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Ginger C. Larkin of Albuquerque, N.M., and Leslie and husband Ton Hazinski of Beach Park, Ill.; two brothers, Raymond and wife Nancy Larkin of Jasper, and Jack and wife Mimi Larkin of Glen Burnie, Md.; two sisters, Mary Ruth Larkin of Loogootee, and Nancy Dooley of Scottsdale, Ariz; and eight grandchildren. His wife, Inez (Reising) Larkin, whom he married Jan. 27, 1955, died April 29, 1998. His parents; one daughter, Marilyn Larkin who died in 1988; one brother, David E. Larkin; and one sister, Gene Pearson, are also deceased. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Loogootee, with military graveside rites by the American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, with a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee.
