ALFORDSVILLE — Eileen Cole, 86, died at 9:57 a.m. Monday at the Loogootee Nursing Center. Born Sept. 19, 1926, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Frank and Connie (Jackman) Swickard. She was a 1944 graduate of Alfordsville High School and a member of Alfordsville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting and gardening. She is survived by one son, Norman Cole Jr. and wife Debbie of Alfordsville; three daughters, Marleen Gagnon of Margaretville, N.Y., Ann Cole-Evans and husband Martin of Alfordsville, and Paula and Jeff Hembree of Alfordsville; one sister, Mary Ruth Bridgewater of Lawrenceville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild. Her husband, Norman Cole Sr., whom she married Feb. 22, 1947, died Dec. 24, 1996. Her parents; one son, infant Terry Jean Cole; one sister, Clara Mae Harrison; and three brothers, Edward, Fred and Roy Swickard, are also deceased. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Alfordsville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Alfordsville Community Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
