LOOGOOTEE — John K. Hembree Sr., 76, died at 9:21 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Born April 9, 1936, in Martin County, he was the son of Alvin and Mildred (Sutton) Hembree. He attended Loogootee High School and was a member of the Loogootee Revival Center Church. He retired from U.S. Gypsum in 1998 and was the former Rutherford Township clerk. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, riding four-wheelers and being with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Sue (Street) Hembree, whom he married Jan. 23, 1954; two sons, John K. Hembree Jr. and wife Cindy of Haysville, and Jeff and wife Paula Hembree of Alfordsville; two daughters, Pastor Debbie and husband Greg Davis of Loogootee, and Becky and husband Tom Robertson of Haysville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Loogootee Revival Center Church. Burial will be in South Martin Cemetery in Rutherford Township in Martin County. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee and from noon until the hour of service Monday at the church.
