---- — Dorothy Jane “Jane” Shepard, 89, of Washington, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 19, at Hillside Manor Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past seven and a half years.

Jane, the daughter of John and Suzanne (Bauer) Schild, was born Sept. 16, 1924 in Chicago. She was a 1942 graduate of Washington Catholic High School. Jane was united in marriage to James P. Crane on May 8, 1947, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1964. She was a life long member of St. Simon’s Parish, and a member of Tri-Kappa. Jane was a dedicated employee of Sonny & Sis Children’s Wear before beginning employment with Ward City Lumber.

She leaves behind to treasure her memory, her husband, Marion L. “Shep” Shepard, of Washington, whom she married June 24, 1978, son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Sierra “Sue” Crane of Washington, and a daughter and son-in-law, Carol (Crane) and Mike Bower of Maumee, Ohio. Three grandchildren, Jim Crane of Montgomery, Jon Crane of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Lance Bower of Frankfort, six great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Suzy Schild of Southport, N.C. as well as many nieces and nephews and dear friends Jean Mullan of Washington and Phyllis Hart of Evansville also survive.

She is preceded in death by her siblings, Laura B. “Billie” Schild, SueAnn Howton and Robert A. Schild.

Jane will be remembered for her hobbies of candle making and knitting (her enjoyment) as well as for her never ending patience, sense of humor, and all-around cheerfulness.

Visitation will be from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gill Funeral Home. A mass will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Hope with Father Gordon Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Sugarland Memory Gardens.

Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association.
