---- — FLOYDS KNOB — Jana Kixmiller Rankin, 42, passed away Saturday surrounded by her family and friends. Jana was born Dec. 4, 1971, to Arthur and Mary Lou Kixmiller who survive her. She was baptized into Christ at the Petersburg Church of Christ in 1983.
Jana graduated with honors from Pike Central High School in 1990, University of Evansville with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1994 and from the University of Louisville with a Master’s of Social Work in 1996. A majority of her career was spent in social work at LifeSpring Health Systems, most recently as senior vice president for clinical services. Over the years she was the recipient of many honors and awards, most recently the Imagine Award from the Rauch Foundation.
To Jana, supporting and treating individuals with disabilities wasn’t just a job, it was her life’s work. She was particularly happy to be named a Mental Health Hero by the Eli Lilly Co. as part of its Heroes in the Fight program. Jana never stopped speaking for those who could not speak for themselves, even as she fought her own battle against cancer for the last three years.
Jana is also survived by her husband Greg whom she married Oct. 23, 1999; her sister, Jeana Garrison; and two brothers, Kerry and Kent Kixmiller; and her father- and mother-in-law, Clark and Betty Rankin.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial following at Resthaven. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to Gilda’s Club of Louisville of LifeSpring Health System Children and Families Services in Jana’s honor.
