---- — Shirley J. Miles, 96, of Washington, died Tuesday at Daviess Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 5, 1918, in Washington, she was the daughter of Castle E. and Carroll Gladys (Morgan) Myers.
A 1936 graduate of Plainville High School, she was a homemaker and member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and fellowship with her family. She was a wonderful seamstress and was always willing to hem, mend and make things for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol J. Hinkle of Washington; grandchildren, Debbie (Bryan) Fisher, Rhonda (Max) Ramsey, Diane Garland, Michelle (Mark) Richardville, Dana (Scott) Matteson, Alan (Patty) Garland, Kelly (Stephanie) Garland, Travis (Carrie) Miles, and Michael (Janna) Miles; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Phylis Tolbert.
Her husband, William Robert Miles, whom she married April 19, 1936, died Jan. 6, 2004. Her parents; one son, Robert A. Miles; one son-in-law, Bernard Hinkle; and one sister, Marjorie Colbert, are also deceased.
Private funeral services will be held at Gill Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Dayton officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
