TIFFIN, Ohio — Ina E. Baker, 94, formerly of Loogootee, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin. Born May 7, 1918, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Albert and Olive (Jones) Taylor. Ina was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee and also Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. In past years she served as organist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and council member of the church. She also served as president of WELCA and board member of the Evansville Cluster. She was a member of the Martin County Council on Aging, which was successful in starting senior centers in the six-county area. She served as the first director of the Shoals and Loogootee centers. Ina worked with homemakers in Martin County as food and nutrition assistant under the direction of the County Extension Office and Purdue University. She was a member of the American Cancer Society, Right to Life and the Loogootee Women’s Club. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Baker of Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry and wife Brenda Baker of Tiffin; one sister, Merle Weber of Evansville; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband of 54 years, Lowell Baker, whom she married October 1937, died May 27, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dale Baker; one brother, Harold Taylor; and one sister, Vera Taylor. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Loogootee. Burial will be in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
