LOOGOOTEE — Betty J. Armes, 84, died at 5:08 a.m. Saturday at Brookside Village.
Born Dec. 18, 1928, in Griffin, she was the daughter of Wilburn W. and Mary Francis (Rachaels) Houchins.
A 1947 graduate of Alfordsville High School, she had worked on the assembly line at RCA. She was a member of Alfordsville Christian Church and a former member of Eastern Star. She sang in the church choir and enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Hubert N. "Red" Armes, whom she married Oct. 23, 1948; two daughters, Vicky (Michael) Caraher and Denise Merrimon; grandchildren, Tracy (Kurt) Lorey, Julie (Glenn) Durcholz, Kelly (Randy) Lechner, Nathan Murphy, Ryan (Tina) Kraft, Sarah Kraft (Brian Favreau); a brother, Charles (Pat) Houchins; nine great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Armes; a son-in-law, Kenneth Merrimon; and a sister, Barb Johnson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gill Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Remmel officiating.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
