---- — LINCOLN, Neb. — Walter Lester Petty, 81, formerly of Montgomery, passed away Oct. 9 in Lincoln.
He was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Plainville, to Ernest and Ines(Chestnut) Petty.
He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1951 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He married the former Maxine Stieglmar of Lincoln on July 16, 1954. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who never knew a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Petty; two daughters, Charleen Ross of Houston, Texas, and Raedean Petty of Lincoln; a son, Steven Petty of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn (Frank) Whitehouse of Petersburg, and Anna Lou (Terry) Chapman of Washington; two brothers, Cecil (Joyce) Petty and Robert E. (Judy) Petty, both of Montgomery.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale Petty and Alvin Petty.
Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at Lincoln Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
