The Daviess County Fair starts June 22 and runs through June 30 in Elnora

Fair adds mechanical bull riding, garden tractor pull



Several new events have been added to this year’s fair, along with everyone’s favorites of demos, tractor pulls, the baby show and the queen contest.

Added this year are a mechanical bull ride on Friday and Saturday nights, garden tractor pulls on Tuesday night, car show on Monday night and cheerleading contest Thursday night.

Besides the carnival, today will also have dairy goat entries. The carnival begins today at 6 p.m. and continues until June 30. Armbands will be sold nightly

Saturday, the dairy goat show will be at 9 a.m. The fair parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Sunday will include dairy and beef entries and a vesper service at 7:30 p.m. in the industrial building.

Quacky the Clown will be roaming the fairgrounds Sunday through June 30.

Monday will also include many activities at the family arts exhibits, the animal barns, produce, shop and conservation exhibits. Several exhibits will be judged. Also, the 20th Century Chevy Car Club will have a car show in the arena. Exodus will play on the bandstand from 6:30 p.m. until the queen coronation, which is set for 8 p.m.

Activities continue on Tuesday with more exhibits and judging on the schedule. An Old McDonald Farm will be open starting Tuesday and continuing through Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Family Arts Department will open at 6 p.m.

There will be a garden tractor pull in the arena at 7 p.m. The Tri-State Tractor Pullers Association will present 10 classes of tractor pulling action, including many 60 horsepower tractors on single cylinder engines.

Also, the Little Miss and Mister Contest will be on the bandstand at 8 p.m.

Wednesday, the horses and mules are judged, as are the beef cattle. The Lucas Oil Pro League and Grand American tractor pulls will be in the arena. Admission to the arena is $10.

Also, the Bunkum Valley Boys, featuring Jim Malone on guitar, Mark Malone on banjo, Brian Harmon on mandolin, B.J. Harmon on bass and Mike Cavanaugh on the fiddle, will be playing on the bandstand at 8 p.m. The band has been playing bluegrass for more than 30 years.

Thursday the sheep show begins at 6 p.m., and there will be a cheerleading contest in the arena. The Sonshiners, an all-male traditional quartet with Doug Harrington, Tim Chastain, Ron McCaslin and Mike Atchison, will perform southern gospel on the bandstand at 8 p.m.
