Local wrap-up for Tuesday
LOOGOOTEE — Loogootee used the power hitting of Wyllie Wagoner and Derek Parsons to defeat Mitchell 7-4 in a rescheduled baseball game at Les Page Field on Monday.
Parsons got the Lions (13-11) off to a good start with a three-run home run in the first. But Mitchell would bounce back, eventually tying the game at 4-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
But Wagoner, who was also the pitcher of record for the Lions, hit a three shot of his own to break the tie. Wagoner then finished off the Bluejackets in the seventh to cap a complete game peformance in which he walked three and struck out six.
Ryan Wagoner was 3-4 with three runs scored for LHS, while Wyllie Wagoner was 4-4 with two runs scored, three RBI, and two stolen bases.
ND wins two games
ELNORA — North Daviess improved to 13-6 on the season with a pair of wins at Wayne Davis Field last week.
The Cougars downed Northeast Dubois 14-13 on Saturday, a day after the Cougars handed Eastern Greene its first Southwest Indiana Conference Athletic loss 7-2.
Against the Jeeps, the Cougars trailed 13-12 entering the bottom of the seventh. But Zach Overton led off with a solo home run to tie the game, followed by a solo shot from Nathan Winklepleck to end the game.
Winklepleck’s blast made a winner of Tyler Potts, the third ND pitcher. Zach Overton started and went the first four innings for ND before being relieved by Kendall Wittmer, who hurled the fifth and sixth innings.
Lucas Swartzentruber also homered for ND, which banged out 14 hits. Swartzentruber, Caleb Swartzentruber, Overton, Winklepleck, and Evan Burkhart all had two hits apiece for the Cougars.
On Friday against the Thunderbirds, the Cougars scored twice in the first and never looked back. Nelson Graber went the distance on the hill for the win, allowing just one hit and two earned runs.
Overton and Burkhart each doubled for the Cougars, while Mitch Wier added a pair of hits.
ND wins Loogootee Invitational
LOOGOOTEE — The North Daviess Cougar golf team was victorious Friday winning the Loogootee Invitational. The Cougars had a team score of 168 and were led by Blake Burkhart and Ricky Graber with scores of 40. The other team member scores were Neil Parsons 43, Logan Brinegar 45, Blane Lawyer 47, and Nick Heshelman 62. Graber and Burkhart tied for low medalist honors and played a sudden death play off. Burkhart came out on top winning the first hole of the play off taking medalist honors.
Loogootee was second with a 194 and was led by Ben Hogan with a 45. Jake Divine shot 49, while Will Breeden and Clinton Burch shot 50s.
