Lion tennis team falls to Southridge

The Loogootee Lion tennis team (3-1) dropped a 3-2 match to Southridge on Tuesday.

Lion wins came from Cory Rayhill, who beat Ben Flick, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, while Trey Smith and Wyllie Wagoner beat John Veach and Lance Woody won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 2 and 3 singles, Mike Olinger beat Jeff Mersinger, 1 and 2, while Nick Olinger defeated Jordan Arvin 1 and 1. Eric Greene and Jordan Guinn lost 6-1, 0-6, 7-6(5) at No. 2 doubles.

“This really was a tough match to lose. Southridge has been a thorn in our side for a number of years,” said LHS coach Rick Graves.

“We have had some great matches with them and tonight was no exception, we just came up a little short. Cory played a great match and had Ben Flick totally baffled. I was really proud of the way he handled the match and stayed focused mentally. Ben can unnerve you but Cory never allowed him to get to him.

“Trey and Wyllie played very well and are becoming a solid two doubles team. I have always felt that is a key position on any team and they are giving us the kind of play we need.”

The Lions won the JV, 2-1, with Mark Bauer and the team of Casey and Cody Woods getting the wins.
