VINCENNES — In just her fourth match as a freshman, North Daviess golfer Darrah Holder was medalist in a 3-way match at the Vincennes Elks on Tuesday.
Holder shot 45 on the back side to lead all golfers, while Pike Central won the team event with a 202 and South Knox shot 212. Wood Memorial did not post a team score.
“It is incredible to see how much she has improved,” said ND assistant coach Brett Melton. “Her confidence is growing with every match. She works very hard.”
Loogootee stays unbeaten
LOOGOOTEE — The Class A No. 6 Loogootee Lion volleyball team remained unbeaten after downing Linton, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17.
The Lions were led by Kristin Hall and Kelci Mann with 10 kills each and eight from Kara Mann. Alyssa Dobson posted 36 assists and Kristine Lagree and Hall combined for 18 digs.
“The girls did a nice job of adjusting to the 5-1 instead of the 6-2 that they are used to running,” said LHS Phil Goodpasture.
The LHS JV won in two games.
WC beats Wood Memorial
OAKLAND CITY — The Washington Catholic volleyball team beat Wood Memorial in five games on Monday.
WC opened with a pair of wins, 25-20 and 25-18, but lost the next two 25-27 and 23-25, before winning the final 15-12.
WC was led by Sam Arnold with 16 kills and six digs, while Paige Campton had 13 kills, three block and six digs, and Anna Marie Butcher added 11 kills, two blocks and 10 digs.
The WC JV lost 19-25 and 6-25.
Vikes down Rivet
VINCENNES — The Class A No. 7 Barr-Reeve Vikings posted another three-game win on Tuesday.
B-R beat Rivet 25-13, 25-15 and 25-14 and were led in assists by Amber Rademacher with 23 and Terrell Miller with 13. Hilliary Fox had 20 kills, while Maggie Sanders added nine. Shanelle Burch had eight digs and nine points, while Megan Delaney had 16 service points.
The JV won in three, 20-25, 25-16 and 15-10. Bridgette Graber had 12 assists and four digs, Haley Taylor had 11 kills and Melinda Yoder had 12 points.
WJHS CC runs at Complex
Washington Junior High cross country ran at the Sports Complex on Monday with South Knox winning with 20 points, Washington had 54 and Loogootee had 62 points.
Washington’s top five runners included KC Heller who finished first (11:12), Austin Gray was eighth, Drew Brothers was 12th, Logan Fox was 22nd and Colton Garland was 24th.
Callie Garland was the only junior high girl who ran for Washington. She finished ninth at 17:28.
Cougar JV, CCYFL gets wins
ELNORA — North Daviess Junior Varsity Football team tied Springs Valley, 32-32 in two overtimes of JV football Monday.
In the Cougar Coaches Youth Football League, The ND Toltest Cougars White third and fourth beat Bloomfield 19-6, while the ND Toltest Cougars fifth and sixth beat Bloomfield, 33-14.
Loogootee downs WC
Loogootee blanked Washington Catholic in middle school tennis at the Washington Sports Complex 7-0.
In singles action, Loogootee won all matches by 6-0 scores, including wins by Conner Wittmer over John Buchanan, Waylon Mathews over Cam Lancaster, Dalton Jenkins over Dylan Walker, Garrett Carrico over Conner Nolan, and Tyler Booker over John Thomas Yingst.
In doubles action, Buchanan and Lancaster fell 6-0, while Nolan and Walker also lost for the Cardinals.
