MONTGOMERY — Melina Padgett blistered Country Oaks’ back nine with a one-over-par 37 to lead the Lady Hatchets to a 14-stroke win over Jasper and North Knox on Wednesday.
Ninteenth-ranked Washington, led by Padgett and Mikala Barber with a career-best 42, shot 172. Jasper shot a 186 and North Knox carded a 217.
“Malina played awesome shooting one-over-par,” Lady Hatchet coach Steve Kovaleski said. “She had three birdies and two up-and-down pars on (Holes) 10 and 11 that highlighted her night.”
Larren McDonald finished fourth in the three-way match with a 44. Blythe Wildridge shot a 49, while Hilary Leighty shot 55 and Katie Schmitt carded a 69.
North Daviess freshman Darrah Holder, competing as an individual, shot 49.
“We are starting to be more consistent as a team,” Kovaleski said.
“The ladies are rising up and playing hard every hole.”
The Lady Hatchets’ next match is Monday at Country Oaks against North Central.
NDJH falls
Eastern Greene defeated North Daviess in junior high football 19-8.
ND’s lone score came when Logan Turpin caught a pass from Brady Helms and Drew Lengacher converted on the run.
The Cougars took an 8-7 lead into half time only to have Eastern score twice in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. The Cougars host Oolitic today.
WC loses to Pike Central
PETERSBURG — The Pike Central Chargers took a close five-game volleyball match from Washington Catholic on Tuesday.
Pike opened with a 25-18 win, followed by WC grabbing a 26-24 game. PC then came back 26-24, but WC evened it at 27-25. Pike then won the finale, 15-12.
