Published September 03, 2008 09:08 pm - MT. VERNON — The 17th-ranked Washington boys soccer team, fresh off a strong showing in the Hoosier Cup tourney over the weekend, remained perfect in Big 8 Conference play with a 13-2 win over Mt. Vernon on Tuesday.

MT. VERNON — The 17th-ranked Washington boys soccer team, fresh off a strong showing in the Hoosier Cup tourney over the weekend, remained perfect in Big 8 Conference play with a 13-2 win over Mt. Vernon on Tuesday.

Washington (5-0-2, 3-0) had eight players register at least one goal in the match, including three goals apiece from Ethan Hunsinger and Trevor Miller. Hunsinger also added two assists for the Hatchets, while Graham Singleton scored a goal and assisted on four other scores. Jance Johnston netted a pair of goals, while Brandon Lee, Addison Stoll, Evan Wadsworth, and Garrett Simpson each scored a goal. Lee, Gage Overton, and Randy Marroquin also added an assist each.

Washington outshot the Wildcats 22-6 with Hatchet keeper Stefan Arney saving three shots.

In the JV match, Washington (3-0, 2-0) picked up a goal from Cody Chapman for a 1-0 win.

Jug Rox defeat Wood Memorial

The Shoals boys varsity soccer team (4-1-1) got another victory with a 4-2 win over conference foe Wood Memorial. The team was led by the great midfield play of Kendrick Fuhrman, Nick Beasley and J.J. Johnson.

The Rox scored two goals in each half with Tommy Hilderbrand and Jondavide Hopkins each netting a pair of scores.

Cougars move to 7-0 with win over Dubois

The North Daviess Cougar tennis team was a 4-1 winner over Northeast Dubois on Tuesday.

Logan Wagler moved to 7-0 as an individual as he beat Brock Reckelhoff, 6-0 and 6-3.

Thomas Nugent and Blake Burkhart beat Isaac Heeke and Graham Giesler, 2 and 4, while Austin Lengacher and Lewis Nugent downed Jon Baylan and Logan Ingle, 0 and 2.

Both doubles teams are also 7-0. Tyler McDonald won his No. 3 singles match by forfeit. The only Cougar loss came at No. 1 singles, where Blane Lawyer lost 3-6 and 5-7 to Kyle Haas.

WJHS wins at Complex

The Washington Junior High cross country team took the top five spots at the Washington Sports Complex on Tuesday in defeating North Knox, 15-50.

WHS took the top five spots, with the top runner being K.C. Heller with a 11:11. Drew Brothers was second with a 12:15, Austin Gray was third with a 12:24, Colten Garland took fourth (12:57) and Logan Fox was fifth (13:00).
